In 2001 the Saddle Tramp Riders Club started our Courir for the Children. The reason for this endeavor was for the younger generation to get a true understanding of our culture surrounding Mardi Gras as well as to participate. Every year its held the Saturday before our adult courir.

Troy Richard being the Capitaine picked our first Capitaine Ian Richard to serve until the age limitation or until he would pass the title on to another Co-Capitaine as following with tradition. Our Courir is based on the adult courir making several stops through the country side. The "asking for permission" from the land owner, dancing for their prize, a fat chicken given to them only if they can catch it first.

The Mardi Gras Committee for the Children’s Courir decided from the onset that girls and boys could participate until the age of 14. Our adult run now sees the faces of some of our former children participants and now our festival queens and contestants see some of the same as well in pageants.

I wish for every one to see the joy and spirit of these children as we do every year be it rain or shine. All for the love of  The Courir De Mardi Gras !!!
